A new antibiotic against tubercle bacilli (homomycin).

چکیده
Recently Sumiki and his co-workers (1955) isolated a new antibiotic, named homomycin, from the culture filtrate of a streptomyces obtained from the soil of Inada-Noborito, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. This strain of streptomyces was considered as a new species according to their taxonomic study, and designated as Streptomyces noboritoensis. The method of preparation of purified material of homomycin and its chemical properties have already been described by them. To our particular interest, this new antibiotic was reported to exert a marked

Miliary tuberculosis following homograft valve replacement.
Postoperative septicaemia with infective endocarditis is a recognized complication of open-heart surgery, in particular homograft or prosthetic replacement of cardiac valves. Several infective organisms, both bacterial and fungal, have been incriminated but infection due to tubercle bacilli has not, to our knowledge, been reported. The clinicopathological features of this condition are discusse...
متن کاملAn Experimental Study of Protective Inoculation with Heat Killed Tubercle Bacilli
Heat killed tubercle bacilli repeatedly injected into or below the skin of rabbits increase conspicuously their resistance against infection with virulent tubercle bacilli. Protection against tuberculous infection following the administration of heat killed tubercle bacilli to rabbits is only slightly less than that given by BCG. Addition of certain antigens, notably heated horse serum, increas...
متن کاملOn the Response of Genetically Resistant and Susceptible Rabbits to the Quantitative Inhalation of Human Type Tubercle Bacilli and the Nature of Resistance to Tuberculosis
If genetically resistant and susceptible rabbits inhale a certain number of human type tubercle bacilli, no tuberculosis in the lungs of the resistant animals is seen, as a rule several months after infection, while there is a variable and often extensive disease in the susceptible rabbits. The analogy to the presence or absence of active tuberculosis in man infected with the tubercle bacillus ...

prolonged employment of chemotherapeutic agents. The last decade was the most brillian period in the history of the battle against tuberculosis by chemotherapy. Streptomycin (SM), paraaminosalicylic acid (PAS), 4-acetylaminobenzaldehyde thiosemicarbazone (TB1) and isonicotinic acid hydrazide (INAH) have been proved to be effective in the treatment of tuberculosis. Among them, the resistance dev...
متن کاملThe Multiplication of Tubercle Bacilli within Normal Phagocytes in Tissue Culture
A technique has been described for the cultivation in vitro of normal mononuclear cells on glass slides in a liquid medium. Under these conditions the monocytes transformed into macrophages which proliferated as in ordinary tissue culture. These cultures of monocytes could be infected with tubercle bacilli. The numbers of stainable tubercle bacilli within the monocytes increased steadily in cul...
